Shortly after the first Retarded Dogs gig, Jon Woodstock, Cory Davolos, and I decided that we would expand the conceptual art element in our work by using the theatrical effect of confusing everyone in the scene by changing the name, repertoire, and personnel of our project every time we played a show. The first group to be part of this calculated excercise in confusion was called Young Death who then morphed into Eve Pagoda, probably the most obscure of all the bands I formed with Cory and Jon.
Dave Willemain became a member of our group right when we changed our name to Eve Pagoda, and just in time to replace his friend Lou Thomas who quit Young Death shortly after that group played a Food Not Bombs benefit gig in my mom's basement opening for crust punk legends Aus Rotten in autumn 1993...
Willemain's contribution on this Eve Pagoda piece mostly consists of percussion, though a few of Dave's wild back-up vocals also enliven this shattered psych-folk blast... (more info on Eve Pagoda can be found in the 40 pg. booklet which accompanies the double tape version of Towson-Glen Arm Freakouts, and in a future post on the TGAF wordpress blog) - Mike Apichella

Sonic Youth is one of those bands where you easily run out of superlatives to describe what they created. This could've easily come off as a cynical cash-grab by a band that had broken up 11 years prior to the release of this record, but that's not what this is. Some of my favourite Sonic Youth instrumentals. sentient meat

When you consider the very uniqueness of this group, why wouldn't you buy it? They really are a seriously spectacular live act as well as masters of the studio. Gavin Hellyer
