(originally produced by Jon Woodstock with Mike Apichella and Charlie Jamison. Originally released by Jon Woodstock on the various artists tape compilation "Bomb", July 1994)
Big Huge Fucking Machine was one of many Towson-Glen Arm bands that never played a concert and only existed on record. Other than this track, only a handful of recordings marked our complete output. I played guitar in BHFM, as did Cory Davolos; Jon Woodstock was the group's drummer... prior to BHFM's late 1993 formation the three of us had been working with musical performance art group The Retarded Dogs who were part of a larger project that included similar acts like Young Death and Eve Pagoda, the latter of which existed concurrently to BHFM. Unlike our multi-media work, BHFM explored only musical dynamics within the distorted melody and rhthym of lengthy improvised arrangements...
...'Engine #11' is mayhem and grace in perfect harmony and the best recording that the three of us ever made together. - Mike Apichella (note: more info on BHFM and the "Bomb" compilation series can be found in the 40 pg. booklet which accompanies the cassette version of Towson-Glen Arm Freakouts)

Sonic Youth is one of those bands where you easily run out of superlatives to describe what they created. This could've easily come off as a cynical cash-grab by a band that had broken up 11 years prior to the release of this record, but that's not what this is. Some of my favourite Sonic Youth instrumentals. sentient meat

When you consider the very uniqueness of this group, why wouldn't you buy it? They really are a seriously spectacular live act as well as masters of the studio. Gavin Hellyer
